Computer Making Buzzing Noise - How to Fix It

Unusual noises from your computer are warning signs. Each type points to a different potential issue.

Fan Noise

The most common source of buzzing is dust buildup or a loose bearing. Clean fans with compressed air. Check that no cables are near fan blades.

Hard Drive Sounds

Mechanical hard drives that click or grind may be failing. Back up your data immediately. Consider upgrading to an SSD.

Coil Whine

High-pitched whining during heavy loads is often coil whine from GPU or power supply. Generally harmless but annoying.

Vibration

Buzzing from vibration usually comes from loose components. Tighten all visible screws and ensure components are properly seated.

When to Get Help

If cleaning does not resolve the noise, or you hear grinding from a hard drive, seek professional help before data loss occurs.
